You don't need to do this if you're just turning the laptop off, leaving it connected to the eGPU ready for next time, but you can't just unplug the eGPU on a whim. We used it to casually game on Obsidian Entertainment's wonderful survival game Grounded and got smooth frame rates and a couple of hours play before it needed plugging in. One thing we do like about this machine is it's able to run indie games and less taxing titles at decent frame rates while not plugged in. The laptop's speakers are good enough to overpower it for the most part, but the noise can be taxing at times. Increasing performance with turbo or performance mode gives you a frames-per-second boost, but also results in some fairly loud fan noise. Naturally, you can adjust the performance capabilities in the Asus Armoury Crate software. We sat on the sofa to game and found that the position of the fans on the underside lead to the laptop getting too hot on our thighs. This is often an issue with ultra-thin gaming machines, but the positions of the fans on this laptop are particularly problematic if you're gaming on your lap. One downside of the compact nature is the heat and noise. In classic ROG fashion, it's also sturdily constructed with a nice solid frame that doesn't flex or bend unnecessarily. It has a swanky looking ridged effect on the lid and on the area that surrounds the keyboard, that's oddly pleasant on the wrists. It might be tiny, but it's easy on the eye with stylish accents and design highlights that make it appealing. The Asus ROG Flow X13 is clearly a looker.

So if you want something you can take with you to work, then come home and dock with a bigger monitor or TV for immersive gaming, then you can. This additional box of tricks not only boosts gaming performance with Nvidia's RTX 3080 but also has a built-in 280W power module as well as connections for USB, Ethernet, DisplayPort and more. When gaming, you can also connect it to the XG Mobile external GPU which doubles not only as a traditional eGPU but also as a hub for all your gaming peripherals and gear. It's designed to be useful in many ways, thanks to a design that can be flipped into different positions. Here is a current review of the 3820tg, which is the same true specs (not downclocked to make it work like the Envy), and same build quality as the 4820TG.(Pocket-lint) - The Asus ROG Flow X13 is a 13-inch ultraportable 2-in-1-style gaming laptop that's tiny, lightweight and pretty fascinating too. Changes are always occurring, such as the Envy changing screens to low end, and the TimelineX switching to faster CPU's. When looking at info, make sure you read "current info". Nothing is perfect, but if you know what to expect before purchase, you will not be disappointed.
Notebookreview dot com is another website with good info, and owners of Envy and TimelineX are posting good and bad things about both, as well as other laptops. You should google these laptops for more info.
Been working on them from the days of DoctorDos, before MS was formed. This is from a Tech that works on laptops and other PC's for a living, not from someone just reading about them. I bought the 13.3" version of the TimeLineX and it was so great that a few weeks later I bought the 14" 4820TG to go along with it. At notebookreview forums, many Envy owners have returned their unit and switched to one of the gaming TimelineX models, and are thrilled with the "upgrade". In that class, Envy is below par, while TimelineX is normal. No, not all i5-460m with HD5650's perform the same. Because the TimeLineX is not down clocked like the Envy is, it plays games much better than the comparably equiped Envy.

The TimeLineX series is not sub par, and is a step up from the normal Acer line. Sure, HP always rates at the bottom of the list for quality, (see squaretrade) and is the most unreliable brand out there, but at least the Envy "had" a good screen for a while.
